The Evening Education Program, funded primarily through a City of Lowell, Massachusetts, Community Development Block Grant, is a unique, one-of-a-kind, whole-life education program for adults with developmental disabilities, who are living on their own or are planning to do so in the future. Discussion, role-play, guest speakers and much more make up the teaching ingredients in this year-long, weekly series of classes. Classes emphasize safety, human rights and responsibility, healthy relationships, community knowledge and independence, and the practical skills needed to apply the information. Classes also feature guest speakers such as police and fire departments, local politicians and community health groups.
Classes offered in 2 two separate classrooms, are held weekly, on Wednesdays at Middlesex Community College, 33 Kearny Square in Lowell, Massachusetts from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm and from 5:30 pm – 7:30 pm. There is a $15.00 registration fee and a cost of $5.00 per month/student. Though the class year begins in September, new members are always welcome to attend. Competency tests and certificates are presented following the conclusion of each class session. Individuals must provide their own transportation to/from classes. Classes are cancelled if Middlesex Community College closes. For a copy of a catalogue of classes, contact Carol Midey at 978.251.0610 extension 523 or via email at cmidey@lifelinks.ws.
